What is a Tech-Roll™ Hydraulic Drum Motor?
Tech-Roll™ hydraulic drum motors just make sense. The drum motor has the hydraulic motor inside the roller so you gain space as well as protecting the motor from damage and corrosion. Also, this drum motor or motorized pulley keeps the work area clean and safe with the motor contained inside the drum. Tech-Roll™ motorized pulleys make things simple. On a typical conveyor system, traditionally mounted hydraulic motors can take up as much as 20 inches at the end of a roller, using valuable space. They require couplings or chain drives that often break and need frequent painting. This drum motor or motorized pulley protects the motor, surrounding area and workers, saving time and maintenance. These potential problems are eliminated with the Tech-Roll™ motorized pulley!
A Tech-Roll™ consists of two different parts, the “Shell” or cylindrical drum (body) over which the belt or chain is wrapped. The shell is open in one end and has an endplate with a centered shaft in the other end. The shaft in the endplate turns with the shell. The “power unit” consists of a hydraulic motor rigidly mounted to a shaft and an endplate with a bearing assembly. The endplate turns around the shaft. The power unit is inserted into the open end of the shell. The splined motor shaft is received in a fixed flange inside the shell and the endplate with the bearing assembly closes the open end of the shell. The shell will turn around the motor-mounted shaft, which is fixed relative to the rotation of the shell. Hydraulic fluid enters and exits the motor through galleries in the shaft. To simplify installation, the fixed shaft is supplied with a manifold housed in a standard flange or pillow-block style bearing housing. The Tech-Roll™ hydraulic motorized pulley is manufactured in the United States.
